Video continues to shape how
families, staff, students, and communities consume information online, but many school communicators are producing content with limited time, limited equipment, and limited support. At the same time,
expectations for short-form, social-first, and mobile-friendly content continue to grow across district communication channels.
The Video Storytelling Studio is an interactive, hands-on virtual
learning experience designed to help school communicators build stronger video workflows using tools they already have available. Through live demonstrations, guided build-along activities, editing
walkthroughs, and real communication scenarios, participants will explore practical approaches to planning, capturing, editing, and repurposing video content for school
communication.
This Studio focuses on realistic,
repeatable workflows that help communicators create stronger video content without requiring professional production equipment or advanced editing backgrounds.
This is not a filmmaking course. It is a practical Studio designed to
help school communicators create more effective, engaging, and sustainable video content for real district communication needs.
Module 1: Wednesday, March 24, 2027 (2 -
3:30 p.m. ET, Virtual): Capturing
Better Video Content
Strong
editing starts with stronger footage. This module focuses on practical video capture techniques communicators can immediately apply using phones and accessible tools. Through live demonstrations,
guided exercises, and real communication examples, participants will explore framing, movement, audio, lighting, sequencing, and B-roll strategies that support more engaging and usable video
storytelling. Participants will also explore how to capture footage strategically for editing, repurposing, and multi-platform storytelling workflows.

Editing
Short Form and Social Video
Editing is often where video workflows become overwhelming or
time-consuming. This module focuses on practical editing approaches that help school communicators create polished, engaging content efficiently using accessible editing tools and platforms. Through
guided build-along activities and live editing demonstrations, participants will actively work through editing workflows designed for short-form and social-first district communication. Participants
will explore how pacing, sequencing, captions, graphics, audio, and formatting decisions affect audience attention, clarity, and engagement across platforms.
Guest
Facilitator: Alice Seuffert | Director of Communications, Mahtomedi Public Schools (Minn.)
Module 3: Wednesday, April 7, 2027 (2 - 3:30 p.m. ET, Virtual): Repurposing
and Producing Multi-Platform Video Content
Creating video consistently becomes more manageable when communicators
learn how to maximize a single filming opportunity across multiple communication platforms and audiences. This module focuses on practical production workflows that help school communicators
efficiently transform one video shoot into a variety of usable communication assets. Through guided editing demonstrations, workflow examples, and build-along activities, participants will explore
practical strategies for repurposing video content across social media, websites, presentations, newsletters, campaigns, and district storytelling efforts while building more sustainable production
habits.
