Accessible communication is no longer optional, but for many school communicators, knowing how to consistently create accessible content across platforms and formats can feel overwhelming. From social media graphics and PDFs to newsletters, presentations, video, and websites, accessibility expectations now touch nearly every aspect of district communication work.

The Accessibility Studio is an interactive, hands-on virtual learning experience designed to help school communicators build practical accessibility workflows they can apply immediately in their day-to-day work. Through guided build-along activities, live remediation demonstrations, workflow examples, and real communication scenarios, participants will actively work through common accessibility challenges using the platforms and communication materials districts use most often.

This Studio focuses on realistic implementation, sustainable workflows, and practical communication usability, not legal theory or high-level compliance discussion.

Participants will leave with stronger confidence creating communication materials that are clearer, more usable, and more accessible across audiences, formats, and platforms.

Module 1: Tuesday, December 1, 2026 (2 - 3:30 p.m. ET, Virtual): Accessible Document Foundations

Many accessibility issues begin long before a document is exported as a PDF or posted online. This module focuses on the foundational structures that help audiences navigate, understand, and interact with communication materials more effectively. Participants will learn how accessible formatting, organization, and document construction create a stronger user experience across multiple communication channels.

Guest Facilitator: Emily Popek, APR | Vice President, Strategic Communications, Nichols Strategies LLC (N.Y.)

Module 2: Tuesday, December 8, 2026 (2 - 3:30 p.m. ET, Virtual): Accessible Graphics

Accessibility is influenced not only by what information is shared, but how it is visually presented. This module focuses on improving accessibility through stronger design choices that support readability, usability, and audience comprehension across flyers, graphics, newsletters, presentations, and other visual communication materials.

Guest Facilitator: Janaca Scherer | Director of Communications, Special School District of St. Louis County (Mo.)

Module 3: Tuesday, December 15, 2026 (2 - 3:30 p.m. ET, Virtual): Accessible Social Media & Multimedia Workflows

Social media, video, and multimedia communication introduce accessibility challenges that often require balancing platform limitations, production realities, audience expectations, and communication goals. This module focuses on practical decision-making strategies that help communicators build accessibility into digital content workflows without bringing production to a halt.

Guest Facilitator: Courtney Bonfante | Public Information Officer, Monticello Central School District (N.Y.)
